PPL Plate Final

This was the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams, who by now knew each other well.  The Sharks had the better of the first half and created a few more chances than Cheshire Hall with Coach Brough trying to restrict Cheshire Hall to the flanks, and they struggled to create much as a result.  Sharks had a few chances from set pieces and crosses but could only muster an own goal when the ball flew up off the pitch from a soft shot and deceived the Cheshire Hall keeper.  Wilwood Telfort soon equalized for Cheshire Hall with a superbly hit wonder goal out of nothing from about 40 yards, which deceived the surprised Sharks keeper.

The second half was much the same but Cheshire Hall exerted more control in midfield with their superior passing whilst creating little in the way of threat.  Sharks had a couple of gilt-edged chances from both Brian Gregg and Nigel Morris, but could not make them count.  Added time arrived and both teams were starting to think about penalties when a cleared cross fell kindly to Jackson Joseph who deftly put an unstoppable half-volley into the top right-hand corner, breaking Sharks’ hearts in the process and taking the Plate trophy.  Solid, battling play from two good teams with a victory by the finest of margins.
