TCIFA Partners With FortisTCI In Extending Youth Football Leagues To Sister Islands

One may argue that football has all the essential threads to kick-start a healthy, balanced lifestyle- from physical fitness to personal development, social development and more. Certainly, there are countless reasons to encourage your children to play. Perhaps, it is the positive space that provides many avenues of opportunity. For all these reasons, companies around the world are ingrained in youth football development, as they understand the impact and importance of sport for our youth.

Excitement abounds in our sister island programmes as the ball gets rolling for a new chapter of the FortisTCI Youth Football League. After a successful 2-year partnership in running the league on Providenciales, FortisTCI eagerly took on TCIFA’s sister island youth development programmes- Grand Turk, North/Middle Caicos and South Caicos. The Leagues were launched on each island during October 16th, 17th and 19th, 2018 respectively, with players proudly carrying the Fortis TCI logo on the front of their jerseys.

TCIFA focuses on grassroots football as a way of nurturing talents. The objective of the league is to provide our budding young footballers with a platform that delivers growth on a grassroots and national level. TCIFA President Sonia Fulford commented, “The TCIFA is totally indebted to FortisTCI for providing the resources to facilitate this critical league both in Providenciales and now for the sister islands. In doing this not only do they once again provide evidence of being excellent corporate citizens, but they also show a commitment to our youths and recognition of the significance of sports in their development and by extension, in nation building. This League has given new life to the programs on our sister islands and we welcome it wholeheartedly as we at the TCIFA continue in our role to develop and grow the sport of football in the TCI.

The league will involve boys and girls between the ages of 8-14 years with an aim to promote inclusion. The league commenced this pat week and will and be played throughout this year. It will involve a series of competitive small-sided games on a weekly basis. The teams will be grouped by age, and play in a round-robin format, leading into a playoff and the crowning of a Champion for each age group.

Commenting on the partnership, FortisTCI Senior Vice President of Corporate Service and CFO, Ruth Forbes, said, “As sponsor of the FortisTCI Youth Football League, we are pleased to see the sister islands’ leagues come to life at this time, and to witness the enthusiasm of all the kids and their coaches as we launched in Grand Turk, North Caicos and South Caicos this past week. This program is in keeping with our ongoing support for educational, sports and cultural activities that help our boys and girls to learn, to develop valuable life skills, to compete and to pursue their passions.”

The 2018 FortisTCI Youth Football League, Providenciales, will host its Cup Games and Awards on Saturday November 3rd, at 9:45am. The General Public is invited to attend.
