Boys U14 and Girls U15 Teams represent TCIFA In The Weston Cup & Showcase 2020
A record breaking 872 registered teams gathered in Weston, Florida for the 2020 edition of the Weston Cup and Showcase. In addition to teams from the Southern and Eastern parts of the United States, there were teams from Canada, Denmark, Barbados, St. Croix, Curacao, and Turks and Caicos Islands. This tournament, sanctioned by Florida Youth Soccer Association and U.S. Club Soccer, features four levels of competition – Showcase, Gold, Silver and Bronze, for U8 through U19 boys and girls teams. TCIFA Boys U14 competed within the 11-a-side bronze (white division) whilst the Girls U15 played in the Silver/Bronze Division. Additionally there was a representative Boys U12 club team from Revolution FC consisting of players who are under the daily training and supervision of TCIFA’s Coaches. This team competed in the Bronze division and were crowned Champions of this Division.
The Boys U14 team played a very attractive and organized football and missed out on playing in the finals by a mere one point.
The Girls U15 showed tremendous improvement under the guidance of Women’s Director Yunelsis Rodrigues Baez and her coaching staff. The team played 3 very competitive games and were unfortunate to not come out on the winning end in 2 of the games they played.
This marks the fourth consecutive participation year for the TCIFA.
The President’s Day weekend matches began on Saturday, February 15th, concluding with finals on Monday, February 17th. This platform continues to provide a forum in which international teams, national teams and local teams can play each other, challenge themselves and test their abilities, in keeping up with the Football Association’s vision to develop its youth national programmes.
General Secretary Oliver Smith reflected that “the Weston Cup provides our Youth Teams at the TCIFA with the opportunity to participate in top level competition. It’s a forum for our players to express themselves on the field and for our Coaches to assess our national players in games and to see what is the next route to take in the development of our Youth Players”.
