Turks and Caicos Islands Sets Out for The Concacaf Women’s Under 17 Qualifiers

The Concacaf Women’s Under-17 Qualifiers has begun, and Team Turks and Caicos is fired up! This is the qualifying tournament from which teams would progress to the FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup next year. In preparation and keeping the momentum enroute to the tournament, the National Team embarked on a training camp hosted by Florida Kraze Krush in Orlando Florida. The camp involved a series of training sessions, bonding sessions, and matches played against the Club’s age group teams.

Initially, sixteen teams were set to compete in the Concacaf Qualifiers, but a number of them were forced to withdraw due to COVID-19 travel restricions, resulting in an uneven number of teams per group. In light of this, Concacaf made the decision to reformat the tournament’s group stage to two groups of three teams, and one group of four teams, as follows:

Group A: Saint Kitts and Nevis, US Virgin Islands and Suriname

Group B: Barbados, Curaçao and Belize

Group C: Honduras, Anguilla, Guyana and Turks and Caicos Islands

The Concacaf Women’s U17 Qualifiers are playing at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, USA. Turks and Caicos will play on October 28th to November 1st. At the end of group stage play, the winner of each group and the best ranked second place finisher, which will be determined using a weighted points system of the total number of points divided by the number of matches played, will advance to the 2022 Concacaf Women’s U-17 Championship (CWU17) .

The next phase of the 2022 Concacaf Women’s U-17 Championship (CWU17) is scheduled to take place in January. The Concacaf top ranked 16 teams participating in the Group Stage of the Championship will be divided into four groups. After round-robin play, the top three teams in each group will advance to the Round of 16, joining the four teams from the Qualifiers.

The winner, runner-up, and third place of the 2022 CWU17 will qualify for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in India between October 11-30, 2022.

President of the TCIFA, Sonia Fulford commented that “the opportunity to have our young players participate in a World Cup Qualifying Tournament is not one we could pass on. Our team is a young team and as such we are realistic in our goals, but the experience is one that will go miles in improving the quality of our players and in growing and developing the women’s game here in the TCI”.
