Women's Premier League Is Back, And Better!
After five inactive years, the Women’s Premier League has returned to the TCIFA National Academy. The league will be played in over four rounds, with each of the six team playing a minimum 20 matches for the season, and culminating with a champion in about six months time. Players from the sister Islands, i.e. South Caicos, Grand Turk and North/Middle Caicos, have been included on each team roster , and will be traveling to Providenciales to participate in matches.
TCIFA Technical Director said, “The next four years promises to be very exciting for women’s football, the world over, and the Turks and Caicos Islands are preparing to be apart of that. It is not far fetched that the TCI, certainly for 2027, can be prepared and ready to claim one of those six spots dedicated to Concacaf, in the FIFA Women’s World Cup. This is the beginning, and a very important beginning. The journey of a thousand miles always begin with a single step.”
Karina LeBlanc, Concacaf Head of Women’s Football, expressed excitement for the return of the Women’s Premier League to the Turks and Caicos Islands. “I know the power of this game. This may be just a sport to some, but to many of us it’s game changing.”
Lisa Garland, TCIFA 2nd Vice President and Chairman of the Women’s Premier League, said, “Today is an especially significant accomplishment for us in women’s football as this is a clear demonstration of our intent for women’s football in the TCI. It marks the beginning of what we hope will be a very successful assault on our FIFA and Concacaf rankings, culminating in a successful World Cup campaign in the year 2027. Through FIFA and Concacaf, there are increased opportunities for growth and development of the women’s games. The expansion of the FIFA World Cup to 32 teams, i.e. six for Concacaf, and the eminent launch of the Concacaf Women’s Nations League, means that in the coming months and years the TCIFA Women’s National Team will be well engaged in competitive International games. We are taking a very important step in this journey.”
“Women’s Football is moving, all over the world. It’s growing, and Turks and Caicos is no different. We have made a renewed commitment to put women’s football at the forefront of our agenda. As President of the TCIFA, a woman herself, I can’t tell you how happy I am; not only to see six teams participating in the league, but it’s a joy to see so many old faces. Faces that I’ve played football with myself!” said TCIFA President, Sonia Fulford. She continued, ”I’d like to pledge TCIFA’s support, that we are going to do everything humanly possible to ensure that this league continues, and to ensure that it gets all of the support required to further develop women’s football and keep it going.”
